Clinical Responsibilities:
- Greets and prepares patients for the health care provider by completing intake duties such as documenting the reason for visit, obtaining and recording the patient's history, medications, vital signs, current medications, medication allergies, and ensuring all information is current and up to date.
- Prepare patients for examination and assist during procedures as needed.
- Perform routine laboratory tests, such as blood draws, urine tests, and specimen collection.
- Assist with minor office-based surgeries or procedures.
- Ensure proper patient documentation in medical records, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA.
- Explain treatment procedures, specialty testing guidelines and or provider's instructions to patient.
- Ensure patient exam rooms are stocked, clean and orderly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Schedule patient appointments and manage patient flow.
- Answer patient phone calls and provide basic assistance, appointment reminders, or general information.
- Maintain patient files and ensure all necessary documentation is up-to-date.
- Verify patient insurance information.
- Assist with ordering medical supplies and managing inventory.
- Handle patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Process referrals and assist with patient communication.
Other Responsibilities:
- Maintain a clean and safe clinical environment, adhering to infection control and safety standards.
- Assisting with clinic duties.
- Provide patient education on health management, medications, and post-treatment care.
- Perform other administrative or clinical tasks as directed by supervising healthcare providers.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Medical Assistant Certificate preferred, willing to train the right individual
Knowledge of clinical procedures usually obtained from a certificate or Associates degree in a clinical program including anatomy, physiology, phlebotomy, first aid, and medical terminology recommended.
Knowledge of office procedures usually obtained from a certificate or Associates degree in a business program including administrative processes and procedures, claims processing, preparing patient charts, and basic computer skills recommended.
Experience: One year of medical office experience recommended.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to interact with patients in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medical documentation.
- Proficient in using medical software, office equipment, and medical instruments.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle difficult situations with professionalism.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality protocols.
- Excellent time management skill.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a clinical or medical office environment.
- Some physical activity, such as standing, walking, and lifting, may be required.
